Health & Wellness

Just like you, the residents of Crane’s Mill have recognized the need to make important decisions about their future and their continuing health care needs. A Continuing Care Retirement Community allows residents to tailor their service plan to suit their needs, abilities and preferences. Crane’s Mill offers lifestyles ranging from independent and assisted living to skilled nursing care. Even though a senior may not require a specific service now, they can opt to enroll in it when they need it.

Crane’s Mill is an evolving partnership that grows and changes with you — our services expand as your needs change. Crane’s Mill enables you to continue to Enjoy Our Lifestyle no matter where you may be living on campus. Enjoy the benefits of supportive living enhanced by individual services carefully provided to assure your comfort, independence & personal dignity.

You will find at Crane’s Mill, that we are a community that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit. Our focus on wellness and our proactive approach to health and well-being is woven into every aspect of the Crane’s Mill lifestyle. Residents are encouraged to participate. You can find your niche whether it is being outside, enjoying nature – or inside, challenging your neighbor to a round of bowling with the Wii video game.

Our community offers a wealth of opportunity to exercise mind and body while providing a good foundation for spiritual growth. Many beneficial activities do not normally carry the “exercise” label, such as dancing, gardening, or a walk around the campus. All count as physical activity and contribute to good health. Mastering a new craft, putting together a jigsaw puzzle, or playing Bridge and Mahjong can also count as “exercise” as they stimulate one’s mind. We strive to maximize quality of life through every stage of living in every level of care. As a resident of our community, you can live a life of dignity with peace of mind, and rich opportunity to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Five-Star Quality Rating

The Health Center at Crane’s Mill Continuing Care Retirement Community scored high marks when The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published results from its new rating system in early December 2008. The facility’s nursing home, The Health Center at Crane’s Mill, received an overall quality rating of five stars – the highest rating possible.

Created to help consumers, families and caregivers compare nursing homes, the rating system is based on continued efforts as a result of the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA ’87), a nursing home reform law, and more recent quality improvement campaigns such as the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes, a coalition of consumers, health care providers, and nursing home professionals.

A Five-Star Quality Rating from CMS translates into the nursing home being assessed as Much Above Average. A Four-Star rating is Above Average; Three-Star is Average; Two-Star is Below Average; and One-Star is Much Below Average.

Each nursing home’s rating is derived from the compilation of data based on three key areas: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. CMS provides a star rating for each of these three areas. It then combines the three ratings to calculate an overall rating.

The Health Center at Crane’s Mill received an overall rating of five stars. It also rated five stars for its quality measures, four stars for staffing, and three stars for health inspections (a combination of its last three inspections).

The Nursing Home Five-Star Quality Rating is new and should be used as one of many variables when researching and comparing nursing homes for your loved one. The American Association of Home and Services for the Aging (AASHA) recommends that you use the ‘five-senses test.’ Characteristics such as: community reputation, observation of staff-resident interactions and availability of senior management to address resident and family concerns should also be taken into consideration when making a decision.
