Annual Back-to-School Backpack Program — Another Great Success

Once again, we are proud to announce, another recording breaking year in the collection of backpacks at Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey.

Each year, generous donations of assembled backpacks from congregations, organizations and individuals enable hundreds of New Jersey children within LSM/NJ programs to get a jump start on learning and succeeding in school. Many of LSM/NJ’s families cannot afford the added expense of school supplies. Through this initiative, LSM/NJ is able to alleviate this worry and distribute backpacks filled with important necessities to children associated with its following programs: LSM Camden, Peapack-Gladstone, Children’s Home, Project Home, South Plainfield, Chestnut Monmouth, West Hanover and New Visions Homeless Day Shelter.

This year, with the assistance and support of more than a dozen congregations and organizations, and several generous individuals, we received 600 backpacks FILLED and overflowing with school supplies.

A very special ‘thank you’ is extended to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Somerville, NJ, for donating 200 backpacks for this year’s appeal.

We are very grateful to all of those who have supported our appeal and to those who believe in helping give children the best start possible – which is the foundation for a successful school year.
