LSMNJ Foundation Awarded $100,000 Grant from Connelly Foundation

Lutheran Social Ministries of NJ (LSMNJ) Foundation received a generous grant of $100,000 from the Connelly Foundation in October 2014. The grant will be used to support New Visions Homeless Day Shelter as it moves to a new location this December.

Currently located at 523 Stevens St. in Camden, the homeless day shelter will move to 555 Atlantic Ave in Camden, also the site of Joseph’s House, which offers similar nighttime services to at-risk homeless patrons. The relocation offers many advantages for the patrons of New Visions, including a single floor layout providing an easier flow for patrons and volunteers. There will also be additional space for partner organizations to utilize as they work together with New Visions to serve the at-risk Camden community.

“I am so thankful for the Connelly grant and the support of our donors and partners which has made this move possible,” expressed Executive Director of Fund Development and LSMNJ Foundation, Beth Gebhart. “The renovations will allow for an expanded kitchen and serving area for meals. Additionally, New Visions will have a separate laundry room adjacent to the restrooms. The new space will allow more people to use the services. We also plan to offer more wrap around services to our patrons in need with the help of partner agencies. We are truly blessed.”

At New Visions’ new site homeless clients will be able to utilize the same beneficial services offered at the current location such as breakfast and lunch, shower and laundry facilities, a food pantry, clothing closest, and a number of social services.
