New Visions to Receive Support Through the Francis Fund
Camden, NJ—New Visions Homeless Day Shelter, a part of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSMNJ), is one of six charities with locations in the city of Camden selected to benefit from the Francis Fund–a special short-term fund in honor of the September visit of Pope Francis. Awards from the fund are to leave a lasting impact by addressing the needs of persons who are hungry and homeless in the greater Philadelphia area and Camden. Almost 50 human services organizations have already been approved for support, and almost $700,000 has already been committed to this effort.
New Visions Executive Director Kevin Moran noted that assistance from the Francis Funds will be used to expand the day center’s meal programs. “Currently, we serve breakfast and lunch each day Monday through Friday to about 150 people in the city of Camden. Our next door neighbor, Joseph’s House of Camden, will use Francis Funds to build an addition to house a small health clinic at their current location.”
The four other Camden organizations receiving Francis Funds are Cathedral Kitchen, Catholic Charities (Diocese of Camden), Center for Family Services, and Covenant House.
