Former retirement home for Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth now open to the public as a senior living and care resource operated by Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey

Burlington, NJ — Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSMNJ) and the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth announce a transfer in ownership of St. Anne Villa—190 Park Ave., Florham Park, NJ—from the Sisters of Charity to LSMNJ. Effective October 1, Saint Anne Villa is now part of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey and will operate as The Villa at Florham Park.

Built in the early 1930’s, Saint Anne Villa has been the retirement home for the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. Operating as The Villa at Florham Park this 80 bed skilled nursing and 21 bed assisted living facility will now be available to serve the public. The Sisters of Charity will continue to live and be cared for at The Villa at Florham Park, and look forward to welcoming new neighbors from the local community and beyond.

Due to declining membership in recent years, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth made the decision to transition their retirement facility to new ownership. They conducted a targeted search for a faith-based organization with a mission and expertise appropriate to operating the facility and continuing to provide care for their retired Sisters. Ultimately, a match was found with LSMNJ and resulted in the October 1 transfer of ownership and transition from private to public facility.

The Villa at Florham Park is fully licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health to admit residents from the general public. Initially, services provided will include assisted living, nursing care, memory support, rehabilitation, and respite care. The original Romanesque structure is both beautiful and historic. Over the years, numerous architecturally harmonious additions and renovations have resulted in a facility that is pleasing to the eye, comfortable to live in, and up-to-date in its healthcare support.

This unique transition joins together the common missions of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey, organizations united in their dedication to caring for those in need.

Established in 1904, LSMNJ is a mission-driven, grace-filled, not-for-profit organization committed to using its combined expertise to serve those in New Jersey who hurt, who are in need, or who have limited choices. In addition to The Villa at Florham Park, LSMNJ addresses various human and social needs through senior living and healthcare, affordable housing, adoption, disaster recovery, and diverse other programs in 19 locations across New Jersey.

The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth were founded by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, MD in 1809 and in NJ by Mother Mary Xavier Mehegan in 1859. Today, members of the order are actively engaged in education, healthcare, pastoral, and social service ministries in 19 dioceses within the United States, El Salvador, and Haiti.
