BURLINGTON – Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSM/NJ) recently broke ground on Phase II of construction at its Crane’s Mill Continuing Care Retirement Community, located in West Caldwell, New Jersey.

At a formal groundbreaking ceremony, held on Monday, April 21, executives and staff of LSM/NJ, numerous township officials, and nearly one hundred current and future Crane’s Mill residents gathered on the site where phase II of construction will begin. After a brief program, 18 key officials grazed the ground with shovels in hand and ‘Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey’ branded on their hard hats.

“This is an exciting time for everyone,” remarked Craig Karczmer, Executive Director of Crane’s Mill. “Both our current residents and our future Phase II residents are anxious to see the project begin.” Karczmer continued, “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response we have had. Prior to a single shovel touching the ground today, we have already sold nearly sixty percent of the units in Phase II.”

Crane’s Mill Continuing Care Retirement Community opened in August of 1998. Designed to provide ongoing healthcare for seniors as their needs change throughout the aging process, Crane’s Mill offers independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care on its 48-acre campus in West Caldwell. Independent living apartments and cottages are well appointed, maintained and designed to provide comfort and security for its residents. Amenities include an indoor heated pool and newly renovated fitness center, library, gift shop and greenhouse. Flexible meal plan, restaurant-style dining and a varied schedule of recreational, cultural and social activities enhance residents’ quality of life.

Phase II construction is expected to begin in late June 2008 and will likely continue into early 2010. When completed, an additional 70 independent living apartments and 10 cottages will bring the campus total to286 residential units. An additional Phase III will also take place simultaneously during Phase II construction. Phase III will include the renovation of the Oaks Health Center, Crane’s Mill’s skilled nursing and assisted living facility.

Planning and development of Phase II has been managed by Covenant Solutions Business and Development Support LLC, while Kanalstein, Danton Associates, Inc. of Voorhees, New Jersey is responsible for the architectural design of the project. Del-Sano Contracting Corporation of Union, New Jersey, will oversee the construction.
