The Need to Clean-up and Cool-Off on a Hot Summer Day
During summer heat waves, who doesn’t long for a shower to rinse off the day’s sweat and grime of the day and cool down a little. Whether you are fortunate enough to live in a house with multiple baths or showers or homeless and living in your car or on the street—this desire for cooling cleanliness is something we all have in common.
Of the many services provided by our New Visions Homeless Day Shelter in Camden, access to showers and items to maintain personal hygiene is one of the most valued—especially now when temperatures can soar to the high 90’s or above. The good news is that the water supply and showers are functioning just fine at New Visions. The bad news is that the supply of toiletries has been depleted, just when the need is greatest.
According to Kevin Moran executive director at New Visions, “Last April 2015, an Eagle Scout conducted a toiletry drive as his main service project. We were very fortunate that he chose New Vision as the beneficiary of his project. The results of his collection efforts, 25 ‘filled’ bins of toiletries, lasted us for the past year!”
“Although we would welcome a similar project-based donation anytime, New Vision’s need for personal care items is immediate,” notes Kevin. “We would be appreciative of any group or individual contributions to help re-stock our shelves so our guests can refresh on these hot days with a shower. . . just like you and me.”
